Messages get marked as spam

Stello emails should be less likely to get marked as spam than emails from traditional newsletter platforms, but it can still happen.

If your messages are getting opened at a lower rate than you expect, please first read our page on low open rates. If you have confirmed that your messages are definitely getting marked as spam for some recipients, you can reduce the chance of this by:

  1. Getting recipients to mark the email as "not spam" (when it has gone to spam)
  2. Personalise the message's invitation, which is the box above the actual Stello message when editing it as a draft. This is the text that is inserted into the email. It should be:
    1. Substantial: Add a paragraph or two about what's in your newsletter
    2. Specific: Add text specific to you, not just generic text about opening the newsletter
  3. Get recipients to save your address as a contact in their email app

Also ensure all recipients want to receive your messages, as any behavior similar in some way to spam can have serious consequences for your email account (especially if it's your personal account). Only send messages to those who want to receive them, and go through the "Disengaged" list in the contacts page of Stello to remove those who aren't reading your messages. If you continue to send messages to those who no longer read them, there is a chance they may mark them as spam themselves simply as a quick way of hiding them.
